“The real revolution is the evolution of consciousness.” – Unknown
Most of us wonder what the purpose of life is and may seek the answer outside of ourselves.
It’s helpful to read books, speak to a spiritual teacher, or listen to different perspectives because when we want an answer, messengers come in various forms. Even a butterfly flapping its wings gently past us may have a message that can open our world.
However, if we stay stuck in a never-ending search, without finding an answer within that has our mind and heart in agreement, we have either not found the answer or are unwilling to listen. There will always be a spiritual sense of incompleteness no matter what our achievements may be.
I speak from experience and observing others. I have been on a spiritual search since I was 14 years old; I wanted to save the world. I became more realistic in my 20’s and helped those close to me. I became a spiritual counselor, a writer, an entrepreneur, and when I was in corporate America I wanted to succeed in my career. My goals changed depending on my age and where I was in my environment. But none of these things brought me the sense of fulfillment I was yearning for—just a momentary pleasure to then wonder again about my real purpose.
Finally, it dawned on me that my purpose and the purpose of all of life is the evolution of our consciousness to one that embraces love.
That’s it. The evolution of consciousness – the most powerful movement of Creation, one that gives us all life on earth. Without the evolution of our consciousness, we will stay in the mindset and vibration of egoic responses to the world, and continue to experience wars, violence, racism, greed and the destruction of our environment.
When we raise our consciousness and appreciate the value of inner peace, we make better choices that affect our well-being and the planet.
Out of this insight, I now realize that even when I made the crazy, cringe-worthy “mistakes” of my younger years, they were all serving the purpose of helping me to evolve with more compassion, kindness, understanding, and non-judgment, while learning to set boundaries and practice self-love. In essence, there are no “errors,” there are only lessons for the heart and soul.
Now that I have seen a universal purpose, I can embrace a tangible goal without angst. Whatever I pick – from a humble goal to a lofty one – will enhance my purpose on earth.
“Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself, and know that everything in life has purpose. There are no mistakes, no coincidences; all events are blessings given to us to learn from.” – Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
