“Magic is what happens when you have encountered the Divine. It is the life-altering experience of connecting to the divinity that dwells within yourself and in the world.” – Phyllis Curott
Magic isn’t always perfect and it’s not always beautiful. Practicing magic and living a magical life is an art, a way of looking at things, a way of bringing light into darkness.
When you practice things like manifestation or spells or rituals or just try to infuse your everyday life with a bit of sparkle, you must remember that faith and action are always your guiding forces, even if nothing goes to plan.
An internet friend asked how she could believe in magic again. Everything in her world seemed to be upside down, depressing, covered in a haze. Nothing she did felt magical. Nothing she envisioned manifested itself. She started doubting her beliefs and wondered if magic was real.
I’ve been there too. I spent many hours wondering where the magic had gone, the magic from my youth. Why did everything look so blah? Why weren’t my dreams coming true? It felt like I was living my life in a black and white photo.
So how do you rekindle that magic? How do you believe in it again?
“I have always been delighted at the prospect of a new day, a fresh try, one more start, with perhaps a bit of magic waiting somewhere behind the morning.” – J.B. Priestley
1. Remember that there is beauty in tragedy, light in dark corners, and gifts to be found in even the most difficult situations.
Just because things look like they’re not going your way, you must have faith in the journey. You must keep believing, keep dreaming, keep opening your palms to receiving.
2. Look at life as art.
Even the ugly parts. Look a little longer. Sometimes you can’t see the beauty right away.
3. Connect with your highest self, your divine spark.
She knows what you need more than anyone or anything else. When you get disconnected from your highest self, things can go awry and life can feel topsy turvy. You might have everything you thought you wanted, but still feel angry or sad or disappointed. If your ego is running the show, you won’t feel fulfilled. If things don’t feel right, you feel lost and weak, like nothing you do is working, tap into your highest self, stat! Listen to what she has to say.
“You must learn to get in touch with the innermost essence of your being. This true essence is beyond the ego. It is fearless; it is free; it is immune to criticism; it does not fear any challenge. It is beneath no one, superior to no one, and full of magic, mystery, and enchantment.” -Deepak Chopra
4. Don’t push too hard.
Sometimes life requires us to let go and go with the flow. When things get muddy and hard to walk through or you thirst for a bit of healing water in the desert, close your eyes and imagine yourself floating down a calm river. Let your bones and muscles relax into the water. Let your spirit refresh itself by just letting go and trusting that the river will take you where you need to go.
5. Remember that magic is in the details.
It’s not always a momentous occasion or an in-your-face spectacle. Magic is the violet-colored butterfly, the first sip of coffee on a Monday morning, the intentions you set each day. Magic is made of everyday stuff, including you! You are the cosmos whirling and twirling in infinite space and time.
When you can’t see the magic on the outside, look for it on the inside.
That’s where it all begins.
You are magic, life is magic. No one and nothing can take that away from you.
