You Are Always in the Right Place at the Right Time

Here in New Zealand, a very wise and spiritual Maori woman once shared her philosophy and personal mantra with her granddaughter: “I am always in the right place at the right time.” Her granddaughter, who is a dear friend of mine, told me this mantra, leaned forward and confided, “And you know what? She is!” For some reason, learning this mantra was a giant ah-ha moment for me. Maybe it was just that I was in the right space to really hear it, but no other statement or mantra has ever resonated with me more.

If you look back at your life so far, haven’t you always been in the right place at the right time? Aren’t you always exactly where you need to be, whether you realize it or not? Isn’t every experience either a blessing or a stepping-stone to where you need to be?

When I moved to Texas and started working as a temp in a bank, I had no idea that my soul mate was there and we would ultimately be together for 22 happy years and counting. When my apartment was robbed and they only took the things that I had charged on my fully extended credit cards, it was like a smack in the face – but immediately the lesson was made clear to me. I paid off my debt and never went down that path again.

The first example would easily be perceived as both synchronistic and positive, and the second example could be seen as negative – but I turned it into a positive by looking for and finding the message the Universe was sending me. Adopting this mantra forever changed my perception of both positive and negative experiences that have happened in the past, and things that I manifest in my life today. The peace that I had been searching for, and at times struggled to find, is all within this simple, universal truth.

So now, when I’m faced with something that appears negative, I look for the positive aspects and for the greater meaning. You can too! Even when you’re stuck in traffic, perhaps that is to keep you safe and prevent you from being somewhere else where there are far more dangerous circumstances. Even while you wait in line at airport security, the bank or at Starbucks, try not to be annoyed because you never know who you might meet. One time when we were in line at the airport in Auckland, we “randomly” started talking to a lady who gave us a great idea about how to save heaps of money on travel insurance.

The mantra itself reinforces what you already intuitively understand, that your life matters, that we are all connected, and that everything (positive and negative) fits into your life like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Sometimes you’re not sure if you are working the corners, or the edges, or the very heart of the puzzle – it actually doesn’t matter which part you are working on, because you know that each piece will fit in. Just like in your life, every single piece has its place.

So, remind yourself to be open to new people who appear in your life, welcome new ideas and let yourself be drawn like a magnet to those things that interest you and pull you towards them, no matter how random they seem. Look for the synchronicities that inevitably appear to lead you on the right path, the path you are meant to follow.

Most of all, put aside any lingering doubt and have full faith in the Universe, because my friend, you too are always in the right place at the right time
