Have you heard of the 51 percent rule when it comes to creating the life of your dreams?
The idea is that if you think positive thoughts (backed up by feelings that support them) just 51 percent of the time, then you’ll reach a tipping point. The things you’ve been yearning for will start to flood into your life.
But for many of us, 51 percent can sound way out of reach. That good old monkey mind keeps chattering away, running amok with its litany of worries, complaints, and criticisms.
How can you get to 25 percent? Maybe 10 percent even feels like a struggle. That’s okay.
There’s no need for despair. It can be done. I know, because I’ve done it myself!
It just takes some brain retraining. How do you do that? All of the techniques we talk about in LOA circles apply here: affirmations, gratitude lists, visualization, the whole works. Just don’t expect this to be an immediate fix.
When you’re first starting the process, it might feel like pushing a boulder up a hill. Keep on going. You already know the metaphysics behind how this works. It’ll just take some practice.
It’s important not to scold yourself when you catch yourself thinking those negative thoughts.
This is truly a matter of cultivating awareness, which takes perseverance. When you become aware that you’re ranting or complaining, pause. Then celebrate the fact that you noticed it. Let go and redirect yourself gently.
Set up practices throughout the day to remind yourself to think good thoughts. There are plenty of ways to integrate the Law of Attraction into your daily life.
I like to set phone alarms with my favorite affirmations. You can put post-it notes on your mirror. Add some inspiring quotes to your desktop. Schedule times in your calendar to stop and write gratitude lists. Start your day with visualization.
Some people wear a “no complaints” bracelet. When you catch yourself complaining about something, switch the bracelet to the other arm. Make it a game, with the goal of not switching the bracelet for an entire day, then two days, then a whole week.
Another thing that helps me is to start each week with a ritual. On Sunday evenings, I list out the celebrations from the week before, choose some inspired actions to take in my work and personal life, and craft an intention for the week to come. This grounds me in a positive space and keeps me from being overwhelmed as a new week begins.
I’m also a big fan of journaling. I write gratitude lists in the morning, and note the best parts of each day in my evening writing session.
Saturating your life with positive practices totally works! In 2015 I decided to go all-in with my positive practices. I was at the end of my rope, feeling broke and at a loss as to how to get where I wanted to be. My primary goals for improvement were in the areas of career and finances.
Today I’m making a living doing the work I adore, my family’s finances are back in the black, and I’m happier than I’ve ever been.
It’s all because I cultivated my thoughts and kept consistently bumping up those percentages. Now I’d say I’m actually closer to an eighty-five percent positive thinker!
Try it yourself. Pick your favorite techniques and sprinkle them throughout each day. Give it some time to evolve and grow, and you’ll soon witness your cherished dreams coming true!
