When it comes to creating a life you love, the single most powerful tool you have at your disposal is your ability to decide. In fact, every decision you make becomes an opportunity for you to expand or contract in your experiences and sets the tone for the future you are creating in the here and now. And while most people spend their lives trying desperately to avoid making the “wrong” decision, the truth is, there’s no such thing.
There are, however, three key decisions that have the power to make or break your desires regardless of what they are.
1. The decision to begin.
This is essentially where all journeys begin. It’s the point when you most likely have had enough of whatever it is you are experiencing, and you finally decide you are ready for change. Incidentally, it is also the most challenging decision of all. This is when you may find yourself going back and forth in your mind about whether it’s the “right” time to write your book, travel the world, start your business, change jobs, or fulfill any other desire you may have.
You may also find that you are met with a variety of excuses about why you simply aren’t ready to be, have, or do whatever you are being called to be, have, or do—if so, you have an important choice to make. Do you follow your heart and trust the process, or do you succumb to your fears and stay where you are? The choice is always yours to make, but without the decision to begin you risk the reality of staying stuck where you are.
2. The decision to continue when it’s hard.
Every journey comes with its own share of resistance and challenges. When you make the decision to begin your journey, you will likely be met with some quick wins that build your confidence and show you just how magical your transformation can be.
Then come the upper limits, new habits, and triggers that challenge you to grow, evolve, and become the person who is ready to receive your desires. This is when the decision to continue is imperative. It is also when many people throw in the towel and go back to what’s “normal” and comfortable for them. Unfortunately, very little growth comes from being comfortable. The decision to continue, however, is powerful, purposeful, and the very thing that will guarantee you get to experience all your heart’s desires.
3. The decision to begin again after a potential setback.
No matter who you are or what desires you have, you are bound to have moments when life happens and you fall off track a bit. That, my friend, is simply part of the journey. What separates those who fulfill their desires from those who don’t has nothing to do with being lucky or more skilled, and has everything to do with the choice to begin again.
While you may be tempted to quit or beat yourself up after a perceived setback, don’t. Instead give yourself a bit of grace and remember that, despite how things may appear on the outside, you are exactly where you need to be. Take what lessons you can from this moment, remember why you started, and then make the decision to begin again. When you choose to continue on your journey, you will not only see signs that your desires are manifesting, you will also see the true magic of trusting the process.
