Superhero movies are so popular right now. Perhaps it reflects the inherent desire of so many people to possess super powers and to have the ability to fight the bad guys. It’s also a way to escape into a fantasy story line when there’s so much unrest going on in the world. The movies and comics portray such a variety of super powers; some superheroes are extremely strong, some fly, some are very fast and others are very smart.
What if being calm was a super power?
It’s easy to get upset. It’s easy to get angry and strike out. It’s easy to get offended and take things personally, even when they weren’t intended to be so. What isn’t easy is choosing to be calm in a fearful society. Being calm does not mean you’re weak. On the contrary; being calm is an incredible strength.
Here are three reasons why being calm is, in fact, a super power.
1. You have a peaceful center.
As a calm superhero, you understand that you have the ability to own your emotions. Before automatically reacting to something that upsets you, you take a moment to create space between the act and your reaction. During that space, you intentionally choose how to react to others and upsetting events.
It’s easy to be reactive. It’s easy to respond to something upsetting verbally or physically. It’s also easy to unconsciously trigger a physical response in the body, such as sweating, shaking, clenched muscles or tightness in the abdomen when something upsets you. What isn’t easy is having a peaceful center.
It takes skill and practice to pause and choose the reaction that benefits you. By doing so, you remain centered and balanced, no matter what is going on around you.
2. You act when the time is right or choose not to react.
Calm superheros act when the time suits them best. This means you may need to step away from a situation to assess what the best course of action may be.
If you’re involved in an altercation with someone who is emotionally charged, you may notice yourself losing your grounding and being drawn into their drama. You may start to become emotionally charged yourself, matching their energy, particularly is you’re an empath. Rather than getting drawn into the altercation, step back from the conversation to reassess through your thoughts. Revisit the other person to let them know when you’re ready to rehash the conversation once you’ve both reset your energies.
Or, you may realize that the best solution for everyone is to walk away from the altercation rather than try to “win” the argument. If the altercation is causing you to both get upset with no ultimate solution, make the decision to end it. Sometimes the best reaction is no reaction at all.
3. You do not add fear and unease to society.
As a calm superhero, you choose to listen to your own inner guidance over everything else.
Rather than focusing outward and buying into the pervasive fear in society, you choose to focus inward on your own truth. You are not relying on the actions of others or your circumstances to be the source of your happiness, Instead, you listen to your inner guidance and allow your intuition to guide you.
Therefore, if someone acts in a way that does not align with your happiness, you simply choose to focus elsewhere that is in alignment with who you want to be.
Being calm is a super power. It helps you navigate the complicated waters of our modern world by enforcing a strong sense of self. To develop your abilities as a calm superhero, focus on a daily meditation or self care routine to ensure you take time each day to find stillness to tune in to your inner guidance. Even though you may appear quiet and collected on the surface, your true super powers lie within and are a force to be reckoned with.
