Let me ask you a serious question: Are you happy with your life?
Most of us ask what’s the weather, what’s for dinner tonight, and what’s on for the weekend – but we fail to stop and ask about the bigger picture of our precious lives.
Are we living our purpose? Are we being true to ourselves and our values? Are we courageously going after our unfulfilled goals and dreams? Are we growing and learning? Are we finding balance and doing the things that matter to us? Are we facing our fears and building empowering beliefs that serve us? Are we living up to our fullest potential? Are we excited to get out of bed each morning?
Nobody wants to look at these questions.
That’s why the top regret of people on their deathbed is not living a life that was true to them, instead of the life others expected of them.
The nurse who surveyed her dying patients and came up with that statistic, Bronnie Ware, said: “Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.”
Sobering, right?
So I am here to make a passionate plea:
Make the most of your life. Enjoy it. And be true to you!
Your life is a gift. You being here is a miracle. Every day is a fresh start.
You matter. You are irreplaceable and unique. You are strong. You are gifted.
The Universe has your back. Life is on your side. You deserve good things.
But no one will give you permission to change your life, go after what you want, shine your light, or be happy. You have to give yourself permission.
The good news is, it’s never too late to change. And the second you get connected with your soul and authentic truth, map out your vision and goals, and take baby steps towards the life you want, the Universe will create miracles to help you.
As the saying goes, when you take one step in the direction of your dreams, the Universe takes 1000 steps on your behalf.
So what one step can you take to kick-start the process of making positive changes in your life?
Here are 10 steps you can take to create the most amazing, expansive, satisfying, purposeful, passionate year of your life.
1. Discover who you are.
What lights you up? What are your strengths? What makes you unique? What are you passionate about?
You were born with a unique soul essence and there will never again be anyone like you. You were born for a reason. Discover who you are.
2. Be the CEO of your life.
Stop waiting for someone to save you. You are responsible for your life, which means only you have the power to change it. Be your own hero.
3. Map out your life vision and values.
Most people write bucket lists or New Years Resolutions, which are okay, but the problem is they are often a random and disjointed collection of ideas that don’t actually bring you any closer to living a more rich and satisfying life on a daily basis.
That’s why you need to get crystal clear on your values and map out a vision for what you want your actual life to look like on a daily basis. Otherwise you will get back from your bucket-list holiday to Tahiti and still feel empty.
4. Align yourself with your goals.
You want to know the number one reason people don’t achieve their goals? They say they want to write a book, have money, or lose weight, but when they speak about it their language directly opposes their goals.
They say: “It’s hard. I don’t know how. I’m not good enough. What if I fail?”
Of course you cannot succeed very easily when you think like this. All of these statements are programming your subconscious mind, your faithful servant, to ensure that you stay stuck.
Start aligning your goals with your language. Start saying things like: “Maybe I can do this. Maybe it will be fun. I’m willing to give it a shot. I believe in myself. I know I am capable.”
I do this all day long. Otherwise I would be binge-watching movies in bed with pizza instead of taking inspired action on my goals and dreams.
5. Let go of what others think of you.
If you take what other people think of you personally, you will be offended for the rest of your life. As long as you are breathing, people will judge you.
Accept it. It’s better to be judged for being true to you and going after your dreams, than for playing small and being unhappy. You might even inspire others!
6. Upgrade your habits.
Your time and energy are two of your most important assets.
Most people drain all of their energy on random things like social media scrolling in bed, worrying about what others think, complaining and watching television, and then they wonder why they don’t have zest for life or the time and energy to do all the things that truly matter to them.
Upgrade your habits, and you will automatically upgrade your life.
7. Raise your self-worth.
Do you feel worthy of good things? Or do you deflect praise, refuse offers for help, and generally feel undeserving?
The truth is you are a precious and valuable soul and the Universe created you to experience happiness, love, abundance and miracles. But you have to feel worthy of these things in order to experience them.
8. Leave your comfort zone.
Realize that it is way more painful to stay stuck than to deal with the pain or fear of going on a journey of self-discovery and taking baby steps towards your dreams. Being stuck in the wrong life feels like wearing an itchy and uncomfortable sweater 365 days a year.
9. Take baby steps.
How do you eat an elephant? Bite by bite. How do you move a mountain? Rock by rock. How did Oprah become Oprah? Step by step.
How will you ever achieve any of your goals or desires? Step by step. Day by day. One tiny action at a time. You can totally do this. Just break it down into manageable chunks.
10. Let the Universe help you.
Many of the blessings in my life – my partner, friends, career change, apartment, coffee table, couch and some of my holidays – came as a result of synchronicity and help from the Universe. This power is also available to you.
You just need to learn to work with the power that creates worlds and let it support you more. You can begin by feeling like you have your dreams in advance of them unfolding. Then you will be guided towards them.
