How to Stay Focused on Your Dreams in 2019

Have you promised that 2019 is going to be YOUR year? Are you ready to say yes to yourself? And to go after your dreams?
If so, congratulations!
I know that creating a life you love is not easy. But it is possible.
In 1997, I had a complete body breakdown. I faced the daunting prospect of having to take experimental medication for the rest of my life.
Hitting rock bottom shook me awake and gave me the courage to start my healing journey. I focused on healing my body, following my heart, and listening to my intuition. This one decision changed everything. It allowed me to reclaim my health, lose over 60 pounds, and start connecting with my creative and sensitive nature.
Here are 3 ideas to help you stay focused on your dreams so that you can make 2019 your best year yet…
Idea #1 - Pay attention to your self-talk.
Pay attention to your inner dialogue by noticing your thoughts and feelings.
On my healing journey, I started thinking new and supportive thoughts.
I upgraded my negative self-talk and limiting beliefs into kind, loving and supportive ones. This included my stories about how life was.
This helped me to feel different. It wasn’t long before my self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth began to grow.
To stay focused on your dreams, tap into the hidden power that already lives inside of you. Remember that your words are like spells. Use them wisely.
Idea #2 – Go outside your comfort zone.
To stay focused on your dreams, practice living "outside your comfort zone."
Listen to your intuition and give yourself permission to experiment with doing new things. Notice activities you feel drawn to and would love to try.
On my healing journey, something guided me to enroll in art school, even though I had never painted before!
I’m glad I turned down the volume on my fear and listened to my inner guidance instead. Going to art school turned out to be one of the most fun and empowering experiences of my life.
What activities are you interested in? Consider singing, dancing, writing, improvisation classes, public speaking, aerial yoga, attending a retreat, outdoor hiking, indoor rock climbing, going traveling or speaking to strangers.
Don’t pay attention to what other people think. You don’t need their approval or validation. Listen to the beat of your own heart. Do things that bring you real joy and happiness!
Idea #3 – Practice the art of delayed gratification.
There is a saying that goes something like: If you take the easy road now, things will get harder later on. But if you have the courage to take the hard road now, things will become easier later on.
Delayed gratification is an often-overlooked skill in our modern day world. Society encourages people to do what feels good right now.
To stay focused on your big goals and dreams this year, I encourage you to learn how to practice the art of delayed gratification.
Practice saying "no" to small things today. This will allow you to say a much bigger "yes" to achieving meaningful success in the future.
You really can achieve your dreams this year.
When I was on my healing journey, I focused my mind on the mantra of "progress not perfection."
This allowed me to chart an entirely new course for myself, and create a life that I loved.
Remember that healing doesn’t happen in a straight line. Often, it only makes sense with the benefit of hindsight.
Tune into the wisdom that lives within you. Breathe in courage and conviction. Say "yes" to your dreams and make 2019 your best year yet.
