Recently I was in a slump. My thoughts were negative, my anxiety level was high, and my motivation was low. I was paying too close attention to too many bad things happening in the world. I was low and getting lower. I needed a quick fix. I had to raise my frequency stat!
We all want to live in a world where the sun is shining, the wind is warm, and things always feel right. But, as hard as we try to keep our vibrational levels up, sometimes we hit a low. Below is a list of ten vibe raising quick fixes.
1. Tune out technology.
With all the negative news stories dominating the headlines, it’s almost impossible to turn on the TV or even glance at the newspaper without being flooded with negativity, disasters, or plain old bad news. The best way to deal with all of that negativity is to turn it off and tune it out. I’m not saying walk around with your head in the sand, but there is no need to inundate yourself with the bleakness of the news. If you want to be informed or learn about something… read a book.
2. Take a break from social media.
More and more studies are being done on the effects of online social networking and depression. As much as we love to check Facebook, Twitter, and every other social network site as often as possible, researchers are starting to see a correlation between heavy social media use and depression. Although there are some positive benefits of connecting on social media, if you are feeling in a slump, now is the time to ditch it for a while. In fact, if you want an even faster frequency jump, put down the phone and proceed to tip #3.
3. Talk to a friend.
The best way to pull yourself out of a funk is to talk to someone… preferably face-to-face. Not online, not via social media (remember, you shouldn’t be on social media right now anyway), but a real person. Meet up for coffee, go for a walk, bring your kids to the park, and just talk. But do not spend your time talking about all the reasons you are in a funk. Talk about good stuff, happy things, reconnect, catch up, enjoy being with your friend.
4. Get out in nature.
When you are feeling down, the quickest, easiest pick-me-up that you can do anytime, almost anywhere, is go outside. Sit outside and breathe in the fresh air. Go outside and take a walk in nature. Anything you can do outside in nature will be a benefit to your well-being.
5. Move your body.
Take a walk, go for a run, ride your bike, do some yoga, chase your dog, dance around the house, anything that gets your body moving and your heart pumping. You’ll be surprised what 20 minutes of moving your body can do for your mood.
If you are new to meditation or if you have a hard time quieting your mind, find a good guided meditation. I love the Stop Breathe and Think app, but there are countless guided meditations out there. Studies show that even 5 minutes of meditation per day can decrease symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress.
7. Play with an animal.
Animals are the best examples of living in the moment. Spend some time playing with your dog, petting your cat, or just being around an animal. There is a reason why animals are used for therapy. Spend some time with animals and you’ll see why.
When you feel down and are in a funk, take a minute to notice your breath. Take a deep breathe in for a count of five, hold it for a count of five, and breathe back out for a count of five. Do this for a minute or two and see how you feel. Repeat as often as needed.
9. Have an attitude of gratitude.
Make a list of all the things you are thankful for in your life. If you have food in your belly and a bed to sleep on, then you are already off to a good start. People, pets, coffee… once you start writing, the list will get easier and easier, and your mood will become better and better. Gratitude is a magical thing!
10. Do something good for someone else.
I saved the best for last, because the absolute best way to raise your frequency is to do something good for someone else. Do a random act kindness for a neighbor, friend or stranger. Making someone else feel better will most definitely make you feel better.
The next time you are not feeling your normal “high frequency self,” take a minute, acknowledge your feelings, then pick one (or more) of these quick fixes. You’ll be back to good vibrations in no time!
