No matter where you are right now, or what your situation is, you can attract more good things into your life by making these practices part of your daily life.
1. Be grateful
Feel grateful for the tangible and intangible things in your life. If you find yourself always complaining about how little you have, it is time to take a closer look at this. Your dream job or dream house might not have manifested yet, but there are other things you can feel grateful for, like having a place to stay tonight, food in your fridge, living parents, or a wonderful partner.
Imagine that the universe is watching you. If you complain a lot, you are sending the wrong message to the universe. You’re saying something like, “Thanks for your presents, but they aren’t enough.” However, when you are grateful for all you have, the universe usually replies with, “I see that you are so happy with everything I send your way; therefore, I would like to send you some more.”
2. Think good thoughts
Think of happy thoughts. We have between 60,000 and 80,000 thoughts a day, so it is natural that good and bad thoughts will enter your mind. However, we do have a certain control over our thoughts. When you notice you’re having a thought that causes you worry or anxiety, let it go and don’t fight it. Welcome it, observe it, and then imagine putting that thought into a cloud, letting that cloud blow away and vanish. Then, immediately afterward, replace that thought with a good one.
It all comes down to a simple question. Would you rather spend your time: a) Thinking that everything is going to be alright, or b) Thinking about how unfair life is?
Because the actual effort is the same, what you think and believe becomes your reality in the long term. If you think you are a good partner, you will behave like a good partner. If you think you only attract bad things, you will continue to attract bad things.
3. Do it because you love doing it
When it comes to defining your goals or purpose in life, ask yourself why you are doing it in the first place. I’ve heard many people say, “I want to start X thing to make a lot of money.” Of course, if your work is exceptional and money and recognition happen to arise, embrace it! After all, you worked hard for it. But it’s also important to do what you’re doing because you love it. What is it that you want to transmit? Do you want to pass on a message? Or maybe you want to teach, motivate, inspire, or help others?
4. Change your beliefs
No matter how good you are at something, or how much money you make, if you don’t cultivate a positive mindset, chances are high you’ll get stuck when it comes to achieving your goals. When I first started teaching English, some people said to me, “You know what? Your English is good, but not that good. How can you be an English teacher?” And if I had believed that my English wasn’t that good, I would not have written this article, and I wouldn’t have applied (and been accepted) to one of the Top 100 universities in the world. A 100% belief in yourself is the key to success. Make sure to believe in yourself – even when people ignore you or criticize your work.
Another belief you should strive to adopt is the belief that you can achieve whatever you set your mind to. When I was in elementary school, I used to outperform my classmates in many subjects. I always got straight A’s on all of the exams, and often heard teachers talk about how intelligent I was. My classmates thought I was just lucky to be born with an intelligence gene – to which I replied “I am not intelligent.” The truth is, I just studied hard. I studied for four straight hours to pass that exam. If everyone would be disciplined enough to study, everyone could have good notes, and consequently be considered intelligent as well.
5. Pay it forward
Just as you refill the tank of your car when it runs out of gas, we need to refill our own tanks with good energy. Do you ever feel that the other areas of your life are going well, but no matter how hard you work, you feel stuck in your career? Perhaps it’s a sign that you need to refill your tank with good energy! One way to do this is through meditation, and another way is through acts of kindness. Help an old man cross the street. Cook for a friend who is sick, and learn to feel empathy for others. Perhaps what the other person needs is a hug, a long call, or a cup of coffee. Do it without expecting anything in return. Do it because you really feel it in your heart. Paying it forward is like good karma. When you do good, you attract good.
Finally and most importantly, take action! The universe will send the sufficient people and tools you need to make things happen!
