I was drowning in emotion and that wasn’t unusual. But something was about to change. I was about to take a sharp left turn at Albuquerque (to paraphrase Mr. Bugs Bunny) and transform my life!
It was summer 2022, and I was in terrible emotional pain: depression and 24/7 anxiety attacks. I was listening to Mike Dooley and to Abraham Hicks while I was having a Not Good Time in my life. After two visits to the emergency room, I understood that this was the second turning point in my life where I was going to have to rescue myself.
The man in the white hat wasn’t coming. Prayer wasn’t going to fix this. And it was 2:30 in the morning, so I couldn’t call anyone to talk the feelings down. I was going to have to act.
I was just about to emerge, but I didn’t know that.
The feelings getting stronger told me that another visit to the ER was in order, but I knew there was nothing further they could do for me. So out of desperation I picked up my journal and a pen.
I thought to myself, “I am going to write a rampage like those Abraham does verbally,” and I started writing…
I feel just awful, and I know that there is a way to feel better even if I don’t know how to do it, but I can’t go on just feeling like this and not getting better.
I stopped writing for a nanosecond, uncertain what to write. Then I heard Abraham’s voice (which I’d heard on YouTube), saying, “Go general. You have to go general when you don’t know what specifically to ask for.” And I wrote:
So, Abraham says to go general, so I’m going general. I know that there’s a vortex because I have felt it especially when I was a kid, and I know that Abraham says that 17 seconds of focus will help bring more positive energy in so I’m going to keep writing…
Every time I stopped, uncertain where to move forward, there would be Abraham’s voice saying something that I would jump on and keep writing. It was magical! And it was manifestation, positive assistance flowing in as I allowed myself to open to just .01% better-feeling thoughts, one by one.
I had learned years ago from Mike Dooley that visioning has the power to erase a day full of angst. What I hadn’t learned was how to stopper up the hole in my emotional boat; it was always easier to think negatively and watch the positive quickly leak out.
But I had been listening with great attention to Abraham’s teachings, and the objections my mind had presented were being erased by the practical nature of those teachings.
So, where my mind asked, “What good is it to feel good when I’m only going to still have all of this crud to deal with?” my new learning said, “The good it does is that of building your positive energy—which is cumulative (yowzah!)—and powerful beyond all telling, and which you can use to get out ahead of your life and seed it with better experiences!”
In just a few minutes I had gone from despair to determination. And I kept the energy going, and the listening and learning, and the practice of writing—which I now call Rampage Writing—and the quality of my life has changed completely.
I can now work with my emotions at any time and bring myself up out of victimhood, depression, you name it! And the more I work with that, the broader and deeper the impact. Exceptional!
As I share the teachings from this experience with people, here is what they find the most useful:
1. Keep your intention small and personally measurable. Don’t try to go from A to Z or even A to B as your goal for self-improvement. Go from A to A1.
You know if you feel better or worse, and that is all the proof you need if you want to stand on solid ground as you change your life. So don’t try to go from miserable to blissful; you’ll miss all of the growth and self-appreciation and yummy discovery that you came here to have!
2. Turn on the light instead of trying to push the dark out of your personal struggles.
In other words, when things feel insanely difficult—you’re in a bad relationship or you’re struggling with money issues—trying to wrestle the situation to the ground just puts more energy into the problem instead of into the solution.
This is counterintuitive, I know, but let in something positive. Remember what Mike says: Five minutes of visioning erases 23 hours and 55 minutes of worry!
3. Feel your way forward!
You have the power to change your emotional state and your life direction, but it doesn’t come from thinking, it comes from feeling.
Use visioning. Use Rampage Writing. Listen to Abraham. Listen to Mike. But don’t just use these tools—apply them. Challenge yourself to be kind with you and relentless with your hold-ups, and watch the results happen.
Watch for them in small ways. Remember: from A to A1, not even A to B, and you’ll be able to witness the changes that give you traction.
And don’t worry. You got this! It’s in your emotional DNA.
