I readily confess my love for journaling. However, inspiration is not a prerequisite for engaging in this straightforward journal routine, which ignites inspiration and sets the tone for a clear and positive start to your day!
While many of us are familiar with the concept of morning pages, the stream of consciousness writing once you awaken, not everyone feels inclined to write daily. Frankly, there are days when I find myself with little to say. So instead, I have created these three simple steps to facilitate daily writing and spark motivation!
This meaningful writing practice will propel you beyond the mundane into a purpose-driven day bursting with joy and vitality!
Step 1
Write down your word of the day. This word should inspire and excite you about how it will weave throughout your daily activities. Recent words of mine have included abundant, creative, unbound, and experimental.
Challenge yourself to find a word that makes you smile, warms your heart, and excites the body. This word is the key to the entire exercise, so ensure it sparks joy in you!
Step 2
Set an actionable intention using your word of the day. For example, if your word of the day is abundant, the actionable intention could be “to live abundantly” Alternatively, if the word is unbound, the intention could be “to live freely” or “live outside the box.”
This will give you the essence of how to move throughout the day with intention. Accepting the joyous challenge of living with this new mindset will bring new fates.
Step 3
Write down the attributes of what your word of the day and its intention mean to you. For example, if the word is abundance, some of the attributes could be generous (those who are abundant are not concerned with not having enough), grateful, or open to receiving.
If your word was unbound and your intention is “to live freely,” attributes could be to wear whatever you want even if it is outside the societal norms, say yes to new experiences, or meet new people.
Continue to write until you grasp how your word and intention will feel throughout your day. Will you be more bold and daring? Will you be more generous and receptive? Can you step outside your comfort zone and try a new experience or spark a conversation with a stranger?
Step 4 (Optional)
This step is optional, but I highly recommend taking a few minutes sitting in a chair or on the floor, closing your eyes, and visualizing this new version of yourself. What would they wear? How does a persona with this intention speak? How will their energy radiate and interact with others? Take a few deep breaths and visualize.
Every day I have been completing this exercise, and every day feels brand new, living mindfully and pushing myself outside my comfort zone.
This exercise can lead to new hobbies, friends, fashion statements, and even a new essence of boldness that can become a permanent addition to your personality. Some words will stay with you for a day and some a lifetime, but all are worth trying on and experiencing mindfully.
I hope this exercise brings you as much excitement and joy as it has brought to my days!
