To The Places We Visit

It’s been our tradition on each trip to give back to the people who call the places we visit, “Home.” We do this in a numbers of ways, including visiting orphanages, schools, reservations, or refuges—bringing with us supplies they may need, donations, and short “Mike Dooley Pep Talks.”

Day 2
Sunday, October 9, 2022

Welcome to Inverness

Upon arrival at the Inverness airport we’re greeted with welcoming smiles and a quick lunch to perk us up before our transfer to Achnagairn Estate, an exclusive five-star manor located in the outskirts of Inverness. Along the way we will stop at Cawdor Castle for a guided tour of its well-preserved rooms and immaculate gardens that have been fictitiously immortalized by Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

We arrive at the picturesque and tranquil grounds of our private manor after lunch. We’ll take in the beauty of the grounds, then we gather for our first TUT Talk. Afterwards, an informal group dinner gives us the opportunity to relax and get to know each other.

Accommodations: Achnagairn Estate (Lunch and Dinner)

Day 3
Monday, October 10, 2022

Culloden

Enjoy a traditional Scottish breakfast before joining us for a TUT Talk this morning.

After our TUT Talk, we will experience the powerful emotions of the Battle of Culloden. A Jacobean guide will first lead our group around the key areas of action on Culloden Moor, moving along to the restored 18th-century Leanach Cottage, then to the memorial of 1,500 fallen Jacobite soldiers. We then continue our walk through Scotland’s ancient history at Clava Cairns, the site of a medieval chapel and cemetery that remains a sacred place from the Bronze Age.

On our way back to Achnagairn Estate we will stop for lunch at Cawdor Tavern, a cozy spot that was once a joiner’s workshop for the nearby estate. The rest of the afternoon will be free for you to take a stroll through the manor’s formal gardens or relax with a book in one of the lounges. See you later on tonight at our final dinner in our country estate.

Accommodations: Achnagairn Estate (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner)

Day 4
Tuesday, October 11, 2022

Loch Ness

In the morning, we pack our bags and transfer to Clansman Harbor for a cruise over the Loch. Gaze out upon moody views of the most famous Loch in Scotland and hillsides that fuel your imagination with captivating tales of the legend of Loch Ness.  Be on the lookout for the elusive monster herself! After exploring the depths of the water, we will de-board the boat at Urquhart Castle where we will roam the ruins of the premises. Along the way, we’ll learn about the centuries of conflict that took place on these grounds, including the numerous raids that eventually led to its destruction. Feel free to climb to the top of the tower to scope the Loch one last time for Nessie before we make our way to Fort Augustus.

This scenic village offers a quintessential shore-side landscape for us to marvel at the locks of the Caledonian Canal and walk around for a bit, prior to stopping for lunch. Our journey from Inverness to Glencoe continues along the Highland route to Glencoe National Reserve where we immerse ourselves in the dramatic mountains, natural wildlife, rare beauty and haunting history.

The afternoon carries us to our final destination of the day – at the laid back, simple and comfortable, Isles of Glencoe Hotel, which is exclusively reserved for our TUT adventurers. The loch-side setting is a perfect respite before sitting down to dinner in the hotel’s dining room.

Accommodations: The Isles of Glencoe Hotel (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 5
Wednesday, October 12, 2022

Mull & Iona

Grab coffee or tea in the dining room over stunning views of the Loch before heading out on a full day adventure.

We will head to the coast in the town of Oban where we’ll take a short ferry ride crossing the sound to the Isle of Mull. As we drive along Mull’s stunning landscape and spectacular coastline, we will learn about the geological wonders, abundant wildlife and history of the area. From Fionnphort a small passenger ferry guides us over the coastal waters to the tiny sacred island of Iona.

Our pilgrimage to Iona begins with St. Columba. A prince from an Irish noble family, in his youth Columba became a priest and a missionary monk, founding a number of monastic houses in Ireland before a tribal feud, which forced him into exile and he proceeded to establish a monastery here on Iona. While we are here we will admire illuminated manuscripts and intricately carved stone crosses at the Abbey Church, stand on Torr an Aba (the little hill above where St. Columba is thought to have had his writing hut), explore St. Oran’s Chapel and visit Reilig Òdhrain (the graveyard where 48 ancient kings of Scotland, including Macbeth, are said to be buried). Before heading back, we will take a moment to bask in the panoramic views of St. Columba’s Bay.

Such a busy day calls for a relaxing dinner with uninterrupted views over Loch Leven. Sit back, take it all in and enjoy some down home traditional cooking at The Isles of Glencoe Hotel.

Accommodations: The Isles of Glencoe Hotel (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 6
Thursday, October 13, 2022

Edinburgh

We gather for breakfast and a TUT Talk before we take our bags and head to Edinburgh. Our colorful drive takes us out of the hills, and back to the coast. We’ll stop for lunch along the way before arriving in Edinburgh and checking into the smart and snappy Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel.

In the evening, we are treated to a private visit of Rosslyn Chapel. The mysteries and energy of this chapel provided the inspiration for Dan Brown’s novel The Da Vinci Code. Our expert guides will bring all of the questions to light, and point out the special and unique aspects of this chapel that are not immediately noticed. After our time in the Chapel, we’ll enjoy a light dinner and head back to the Kimpton Hotel.

Accommodations: The Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 7
Friday, October 14, 2022

Edinburgh

Enjoy breakfast and a TUT Talk, followed by some free time to roam the charming neighborhoods surrounding Charlotte Square and shop for that special kilt or argyle sweater.

In late afternoon, we will depart for the Winton Castle Estate, which will play host to a Scottish finale in true TUT fashion! Once we arrive there will be time in the gardens for a Scottish spectacle of Highland Games and tea before we retire to the castle for a meal fit for a King and Queen. We’ll return to the Kimpton Charlotte Square later tonight with our hearts and bellies full.

Accommodations: The Kimpton Charlotte Square (Breakfast and Dinner)

Day 8
Saturday, October 15, 2022

Edinburgh

Enjoy breakfast and a TUT Talk before we take to the streets of Edinburgh for the must see sights of this proud and varied city this morning.

We will venture to the summit of Castle Rock and visit Edinburgh Castle where stories fill every nook and cranny of this Scottish icon. Hear its extraordinary history come alive as we walk through the royal precincts of Queen Mary’s chambers, the Great Hall, the Argyle Tower, the military buildings and St. Margaret’s Chapel. Before taking in the panoramic cityscapes we will gaze upon the crown jewels, which include three objects used during the crowning of every Scottish monarch (the crown, the sword, and the scepter) as well as the Stone of Destiny (the stone upon which the monarchs stood during their coronation).

From the views at spectacular Edinburgh Castle to the shops along Castlehill, our landmark day is not complete without a traditional lunch along the Royal Mile. The rest of the afternoon and evening is free for you to explore the city’s elegant streets, historic lanes and quirky mews.

Accommodations: The Kimpton Charlotte Square (Breakfast and Lunch)

Our group flight will likely depart sometime mid morning  from Edinburgh Airport.

Where We're Staying

Achnagairn Estate

Achnagairn House is a beautifully restored Mansion; originally built in 1812 the castle boasts a host of unique Scottish architectural details from its two bell-shaped towers to its crow-stepped gables. The history, design, luxury and quintessentially Scottish views combine to create an unforgettable experience.

The house has individually styled bedrooms split over 2 floors in the main house and in the courtyard wing. They have been lovingly restored and designed. However, most of the sleeping rooms are in mini manors, which are on the property and consist of 5-6 bedrooms each, all with a living room, private baths, and kitchen facilities. To relax there are 15 acres of land to walk through including formal gardens and forest areas. At Achnagairn you can escape the ordinary and live like Lord and Lady of the Manor!

The Isles of Glencoe Hotel

The hotel sits along the shores of Loch Leven with spectacular views of the highlands. From the calm waters to the dramatic mountains, the Isle of Glencoe Hotel truly is a place to inspire. This friendly, modern hotel offers spacious comfort with contemporary essentials in a relaxed convivial ambience — it is a simple place, without the trappings of opulence and that’s exactly the way it should be in these surroundings.

Kimpton Charlotte Square

Overlooking one of the city’s prettiest private garden squares, this hotel elevates the best of midcentury style to grand potential and consists of seven interconnected Georgian townhouses. Outside it’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and inside the newly renovated interior blends handsome woods, plush fabrics – and, yes, a touch of tartan!

Covid-19, Variants, or Other Pandemics

Wow, these are unusual times, so we greatly appreciate your faith in traveling with us and we can’t wait to see you on this trip!

Given the everchanging COVID related circumstances we now face, here are some extra considerations to weigh before committing to this journey:

For the safety of our group and the people we will come in contact with, and depending on the evolution of events between now and our departure, it’s possible that our airlines, hotels, and/or vendors of choice, or even the governments of Scotland or the USA, may require proof of vaccination to travel. Conversely, if this does not happen, please know it’s possible we might have attendees who choose not to be vaccinated. As of this moment, none of this is known or knowable. All things considered, if you want to maximize chances of traveling with this group, based on parameters we have no control over, it is advisable that you receive your COVID vaccine well before travel.

Refunds related to trip changes caused by Covid-19, Variants, or Other Pandemics:

  1. If, prior to our departure, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, or WHO, or the Scottish government advises travelers to avoid non-essential travel, to avoid gatherings of 50 or more people, or to shelter in place/stay at home as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic (and such notice covers our event dates), you will receive a 100% refund of whatever you have paid.
  2. In the unlikely event that such advisories are issued after departure but before you return home, all costs incurred to shorten or lengthen our adventure to remain compliant (such as testing, masks, quarantine, meals, hotel stays, transportation, or the like), will be each traveler’s responsibility.
  3. Regardless of the above, any COVID tests travelers may be required to take before, during, or after our trip, as well as any unforeseen COVID related expenses incurred for any reason, will be at the traveler’s expense.
  4. If non-essential travel continues to be allowed to Scotland during our travel dates, but you decide not to travel for any reason after making payments, you will be responsible for all cancellation charges – please see our refund policy in the FAQ section below..

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to book my own airfare? Are there group flights?

You will need to book your own airfare, since the group flight has sold out. If you have any questions or need assistance booking flights from your home, we are happy to help with your flight reservations. Please contact [email protected] or call us at 1-866-535-8600 Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET.

Please plan to arrive in Inverness (INV) before 10:10 AM on October 9th and depart Edinburgh (EDI) at 9:30 AM or after, on October 16th. If you are booking your own flights to Scotland and your arrival/departure is at a different time than that of the group, you will be responsible for the cost of your transportation to/from the hotels. If your flights arrive before or at the same time as the group flight, you may join in the transfer.

Do I need travel insurance?

BenchMark Incentives strongly recommends the purchase of travel insurance* before any TUT trip! Travel insurance offers travelers coverage for unforeseen problems, from a cancelled flight to a serious illness—or in rare cases, even an act of terrorism or the financial default of a travel supplier. If you miss a travel connection, even for reasons beyond your control, you are NOT necessarily protected from financial loss unless you have travel insurance. For example, if you encounter mechanical problems, flight delays, or inclement weather that causes you to miss connections, the airline carrier might re-book you, although in many cases (such as bad weather) it is NOT guaranteed (in which case you may either have to purchase an entirely new round-trip ticket or forego the entire prepaid trip without any reimbursement). Travel insurance can cover new flights or provide trip cancellation coverage (for a covered loss), as well as emergency medical expenses and medical transportation.

Travel insurance also provides 24 hour "911" emergency travel service, in case a traveler has to change a flight or a hotel room, in addition to assistance with emergency cash transfers, lost baggage, and pre-trip consultation services (travel advisories, passport requirements, inoculation information, etc.).

HOW TO PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE:

You can obtain travel insurance from Travel Guard International. To view the various policies offered, log onto Travel Guard Insurance. You will have two options to purchase travel insurance: 1.) US and Canadian residents may call Travel Guard directly at 1-800- 826-1300. In this case you may be asked for a travel agent code. Please give Travel Guard the code 22735731 as this code will identify your booking with BenchMark Incentives, Inc. 2.) Visit Travel Guard’s website at Travel Guard Insurance to process the insurance yourself. Please be sure to read all policy information thoroughly and note that if you have a pre-existing condition you must apply for the insurance within 14 days of the trip deposit date.

  • Please note that Travel Guard insurance is only available to U.S. and Canadian residents at this time. If you live elsewhere, please check for such coverage within your home country from independent providers.
What can I expect from attending a WOW TOUR?

This is an opportunity for adventurers, like-minded thinkers from around the world, to come together and share the experience of a lifetime. There will be daily workshops, group excursions, free time to explore on your own, and time to connect with Mike Dooley and his brother, Andy, one-on-one.

How much free time will I have?

Each day, there will be time for you to spend however you like. Some days you will have free time in-between excursions and workshops, and other days you will have the entire morning or afternoon to relax or explore on your own.

I live nearby! Can I attend some of the workshops/excursions without signing up for the entire trip?

The only way to join the TUT group on these trips is to sign up for the entire trip. We have many adventurers in the cities we visit who would like to join us for just a day or two, but in order to maintain the intimacy of the group, we don’t allow this.

Yes! We would love for your spouse and/or children to join us, however, the minimum age for children joining our adventures is 18 years-old.

Are there scholarships available? OR can I trade my services in exchange for going on the trip?

We don’t have any scholarships available for WOW Tours at this time, nor are we accepting an exchange of services. The only way to attend is to register.

You can read all about Mike and TUT here. And check-out Mike’s featured videos and interviews.
