My last boyfriend cheated on me,
now I don't trust my new boyfriend...

Q: My last boyfriend cheated on me, now I don't trust my new boyfriend... sometimes I get nervous and feel insecure, but he is truly a wonderful man. Somehow I believe that he might cheat or something. I am wondering if I am being paranoid - can you give me any insight on my dilemma. I would really appreciate it.

A: You shouldn't feel so uncertain. There shouldn't be such a haze. Try to better tune into your own feelings and to tell the difference between what is fear and what is intuition. For those cases where you really just don't know, do one of 2 things:

1) give it a little time, and/or 2) share your concerns with your boyfriend, explaining your prior relationship and the reasons you now feel uncertain. I think it's fair to expect that a loving, caring boyfriend would be understanding, and want to reassure you. If he gets too defensive, it won't necessarily mean anything, but at least you will have the benefit of being able to decide if you want to be with someone who is so defensive/fearful himself.
