I want to start a family

Q:  Eighteen months ago, at age 39, I realized time was marching on with regards to starting a family.  Without a committed partner in my life, I decided I would try the donor insemination program. 6 tries and NZD$10K later I’ve had no luck...

I have been visualizing and affirming, writing my desires etc for two years, yet still find there is no permanent partner or children. The thought occurred to me that I’ve been trying too hard and to actually let go of these daily intentions and let the Universe take over from here....

Do I walk away from science and completely trust in the Universe or am I meant to try again myself?

A: This may not be the easiest answer for you, but if I were in your shoes, this is what I would most “want” to be hearing:

While it may seem you have little control over starting a family, you do still have absolute control over your own happiness.

And your own happiness will be easier to find if there are not predefined conditions (e.g. Having a man in your life. Reproducing from your own egg). Incidentally, neither of which have proven to make anyone happier in and of themselves.

I think if you can find happiness now, without such conditions, subsequently achieving both will be far easier – although at that point, not nearly so “all important,” if they even remain your dreams.
