Atheists...

Q: I am a great believer in God. Someone I know does not believe in God at all. She is an Atheist. She asked me .......what is the proof of God? I said I feel him in my heart and soul. But she said there is no soul. Now I know better. I know we all have a soul....and there is a God. But.....How .....What Words do you use to tell someone this?......even though I believe.....I am at a loss for words.

A: Not an easy argument!! Your friend, like most atheists, might have issues with the stereotypical God that most every religion preaches... I too do NOT believe in such a God! Has it dawned on your friend that perhaps a different kind of God exists than has ever been preached about. A truly all loving, non-judgmental, ALWAYS forgiving (whether asked to or not) kind of God. A God that is as much a part of us, inside of us, as She is outside of us. A God that makes up all things, living and inanimate... including us. That WE (all people, from Moses to Bin Laden to Me and to You) are the face of God?
And how about asking her... what proof exists that there isn't a God. Ask her where our thoughts come from (can she really believe they are just chemical/cellular chain reactions?). Ask her how birds fly in formation. Ask her how tiny little ants know how to work together. Ask how we dream at night. Ask her about the her own feelings of de-ja-vue, her own experiences with telepathy, or the wonderful, life changing instances of serendipity she's experienced. The answers to all of these questions don't prove that God exists, but I believe they do prove that something else is going on... to me they point to a spiritual world that the physical world rides upon... and with a belief in spirit... "God" can't be far off.
