What Story Are You Telling?

BY Elaine Torrance-Gingrich        September 12, 2017

You are a storyteller.

History is based on the stories that have been passed from generation to generation.  History books and religious writings are also stories.  Who doesn’t LOVE to hear a good story?  In fact, you are so good at telling stories that you do so unconsciously.  When someone asks you, "how's it going?” what do you say?

It's almost an automatic reaction to discuss what's not going so well, after all, you're bombarded with negative talk all day long.  It's on the radio while driving to work, on your computer, in the newspaper, and all over the television screen.  It’s the break room gossip, water cooler whispers, Twitter tweets and social media snippets, and of course, the lunch table two-step!  It's very easy to get caught up in the negativity that pervades your environment.

Yet, if you're looking to make a positive change, you MUST NOT allow yourself to continue to tell the same story over and over again.

If you want more money in your life, you cannot continue to talk about lack of money. You want to appreciate the money that is around you right now.

If you want to lose weight, you cannot continue to speak about how overweight you are. You want to focus on what is great about your body right now.

If you want to get well, you cannot keep saying how sick you are.  You want to appreciate the wellness that is increasing in your body temple.

I completely understand that it's not easy to say how rich you are when you don't have any savings; or to say how skinny you are when that image is not reflected back to you when you look in the mirror; or to appreciate the wellness in your body when every part of you aches.

What you feel is the indication of the vibration you are emitting, so you want to phrase your story in a way that you can feel good about.

How about telling a story of improvement and appreciation? You could state that your financial picture is improving every day. You could give thanks for the food that you were able to buy and put on your table.  You could say, "I feel that my health is improving every day." You could shout to the Universe how grateful you are that you woke up this morning.

You can choose to tell the story that whatever is in need of change is in fact changing for the better, every single day. Tell the story of improvement and appreciation for what already exists around you.   Remember, the Law of Attraction states that what you appreciate appreciates, so you want to consistently give thanks for what you DO have.

My mentor's request to you is to identify the areas of your life where you desire change.  Listen to the stories you are telling others about those areas of your life.  Are those stories positive or negative?  Are you showing appreciation or consistently talking about what is lacking?

Make the conscious choice to be aware of your words and your thoughts.  Our thoughts are the stories we are telling to ourselves, which are just as important, if not more so, as the stories we tell to others.  Make the decision to tell a different story. Pay attention to how you feel as you tell the new, improved story.  If it feels out of alignment for you, tell a story of improvement.  Improvement is something you can wrap your mind around because each moment is a new opportunity.

Once you discover the story that is in alignment with you, tell it to all who will listen – including yourself. Write it out. Add it to your journaling practice on a daily basis.  Allow yourself to feel the good feelings that your new, improved story evokes.  Those feelings are a manifestation that you can record in your evidence journal.  And, as always, be on the lookout for new evidence of your new, improved story.

So, the next time someone asks you, "How's it going?" what will your answer be?
