Most of us have a morning routine and habits that we’re accustomed to, like checking our social media or drinking a cup of coffee or exercising. But have you ever really wondered if this routine works and how it could be better?
Here are 5 morning habits that will lead to more success in your life:
1. Create a nighttime ritual
A great start to the morning actually begins the night before! What’s the last thing you do before you go to bed (watch TV, check social media, read an inspirational book)? How does that make you feel (stressed, relaxed, angry, happy, sad, excited, peaceful, grateful)? This all plays a role in the quality of sleep we get. Some good nighttime practices include: meditating, reading an inspirational book, writing in a gratitude journal.
2. Visualize
First thing in the morning after you wake up, but before you get out of bed, take a moment to visualize. How do you want your day to go? What do you want to accomplish? How do you want to feel? You are co-creating your day; not just going through it reacting to what life throws at you. Not everything in your day will go according to plan, considering that you have no control on how others will behave or what outside events will unfold, but when things don’t go according to plan, remind yourself of your vision and the feeling you were aiming for before you automatically react.
3. Journal
Journaling is a great tool that can lead to insight and inspiration. Writing in itself is a powerful channel and brings you closer to your soul. It doesn’t have to be poetry, just write whatever is on your mind, get it on paper. Check out Julia Cameron’s morning pages!
4. Drink lemon water elixir
Lemon water elixir increases your metabolism for the day and flushes your digestive system. It’s a great detoxifying drink and it also rehydrates your body. Here’s how to make it:
1 cup room temperature water
Juice from 1 lemon
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Dash of celtic sea salt
Mix everything together and enjoy!
5. Practice gratitude
Actually, practice gratitude not just in the morning, but throughout the entire day. It’s easy to be grateful when everything is going well, but remember to be grateful when things aren’t going well also. There’s always a gift and a lesson to be learned in everything.
Success doesn’t happen by “chance,” it happens because of the specific habits we create daily.
Let’s have a great start to the morning!
